These are photos of Sojourner Truth, who gave the speech "Ain't I A Woman?" |
Sojourner Truth delivered the speech "Ain't I A Woman?" in 1851 in Akron, Ohio at the Women's convention. Sojourner was trying to get her point across to women and men all over the world. She wanted people to realize that she too, is a woman. Just like any white woman out there, That the color of her skin means nothing to how she should be treated.
"That man over there says that women need to be helped into carriages, and lifted over ditches, and to have the best place everywhere. Nobody ever helps me into carriages, or over mud-puddles, or gives me any best place! And ain't I a woman?" "Then that little man in black there, he says women can't have as much rights as men, 'cause Christ wasn't a woman! Where did your Christ come from? Where did your Christ come from? From God and a woman! Man had nothing to do with Him." If you click here, you can see a full preview of Sojourner Truth's speech. |
